Augers & crowns for stump removal with excavators

We design and build stump grinding augers from 50 to 150 cm and stump removal crowns from 35 to 60 cm, with right- or left-hand rotation, to extract and grind large stumps and roots of felled trees.

A

Build quality

Carefully finished welds, blades and cutting edges to work on hard stumps without machine downtime.

B

Right- and left-hand rotation

Every crown and auger comes in both directions of rotation, to match the hydraulic motor on your excavator.

C

Italy and worldwide

We ship our attachments to customers across Italy and abroad, with direct support from our workshop.

02 — Stump removal crowns

Crowns

Crowns cut the soil around the stump and pull it out whole. Available with right- or left-hand rotation and, on request, with root-cutting wings.

Ghisotti stump removal crown for large stumps

Crown for very large stumps

Designed to remove very large stumps, such as those along the kerbs of tree-lined avenues, where a clean cut and a tidy extraction are essential.

Ghisotti stump removal crown with root-cutting wings

Crown with root-cutting wings

Ideal for stumps in woodland: the side wings cut through the roots as the crown turns, reducing strain on the excavator and speeding up extraction.

05 — Methods compared

How do you remove a tree stump? The methods compared.

There are several ways to get rid of the stump of a felled tree, from digging by hand to a stump grinder or products that speed up decay. Each one has different timescales, costs and effects on the ground. Here is how they compare with a crown or an auger fitted to an excavator.

MethodHow it worksTimeEffect on the groundMain limits
Digging by handThe stump is exposed with a spade and pickaxe and the roots are cut by hand or with a chainsaw.Very slowLarge hole to backfillExhausting; impractical for large or numerous stumps.
Pulling with the bucketThe excavator levers under the stump and tears it out.FastLarge crater and disturbed soil all aroundImprecise: risks damaging kerbs, pavements and underground services.
Stump grinderA dedicated machine with a toothed wheel chews the stump from above.MediumChips on the surface; deep roots remainOne more machine to transport to site.
Chemicals or natural decayThe wood is left to rot, sometimes with products that speed up the process.Months or yearsArea unusable in the meantimeUnsuitable for any job with a deadline.
Ghisotti crownFitted to the excavator, it cuts the soil around the stump and extracts it whole; the wings cut the lateral roots.FastClean hole, limited to the crown diameter (35–60 cm)The extracted stump must then be disposed of.
Ghisotti augerFitted to the excavator, it grinds stump and roots directly in the ground.FastChips mixed with the soil: area ready to level or replant straight awayChoose the right width for the stump (50–150 cm).

In short: crowns and augers combine the speed of an excavator with the precision of a dedicated tool. They fit the machine a contractor already owns, work in tight spaces such as avenues and pavements, and leave the ground tidy, with no craters and no months of waiting.

07 — FAQ

Quick answers

The questions tree care companies and contractors ask us most often before choosing a stump removal attachment.

What is the difference between a stump crown and a stump auger?

A crown cuts the soil around the stump and pulls it out whole; an auger grinds it into chips directly in the ground. Choose a crown when the stump must be removed, an auger when you want the ground ready straight away.

Which sizes are available?

Crowns of 35, 40, 45, 50, 55 and 60 cm in diameter (plus optional wings); augers from a minimum of 50 cm to a maximum of 150 cm wide.

Right- or left-hand rotation: which do I need?

It depends on the direction of rotation of the hydraulic motor fitted to your excavator. We build both versions: tell us your machine and we will tell you which one to choose.

Do you ship outside Italy?

Yes. We supply customers across Italy and abroad directly from our workshop in Villanova sull'Arda (Piacenza, Italy).
